Research

The research activities in Urban and Spatial Planning is designed to be a place for reflection on theories and practices of the planning sciences, in its broadest sense, and a generator of knowledge, tools and responses - both at the national and European levels, and in accordance with the mission of Universidade Lusófona, it aims to promote the lusophone world and the lusotopia (from ancient Greek τόπος = tópos) the place, location in the lusophone countries.

Our research initiatives are strategically designed and developed in order to enable participation and engagement of students in both research and academic activities. Thus, our students have the opportunity to get in touch from early stages with the current debates and practice and integrate international project teams. Our approach is based on a close link between learning, teaching and research.

The research group Citizen science in the appropriation and understanding of the territory – CIDATE, coordinated by Carlos Smaniotto Costa and Nagayamma Aragão, is an interdisciplinary forum dedicated to research on multiple issues that intersect across environmental, territorial and land use planning, and this with the involvement of different disciplines, pedagogical theories, technological developments and concern a wide range of actors.
